4 balls

4 Balls is a connect-four style strategy game where two players take turns dropping colored balls into a grid, racing to be the first to line up four in a row — horizontally, vertically, or diagonally.

The Simplest Strategy Game That Isn't Simple

Four-in-a-row is one of those rare games where the rules fit in a single sentence but the strategy takes a lifetime to master. Drop a ball, it falls to the lowest open position in the chosen column. Get four of your color touching in any direction and you win. Your opponent is doing the same thing. That's it — and yet the number of meaningful choices in any given position runs surprisingly deep.

The earliest rounds teach you the basics fast: block when your opponent is about to connect three, build toward the center where more four-in-a-row possibilities exist, and never give up the middle column without a fight. What takes longer to learn is the trap game — setting up two simultaneous winning threats so your opponent can only block one of them. That's where 4 Balls becomes genuinely strategic.

Play Against the AI or a Friend

4 Balls supports both modes. The AI makes for a solid opponent that won't hand you wins through careless play, giving solo sessions real competitive weight. The two-player mode lets you go head-to-head on the same device, which brings out the social element that makes this type of game so compelling — reading your opponent across the table, watching them realize they've already lost a turn before they see it.

As a classic browser game, 4 Balls loads instantly with no setup required. The controls are as minimal as the rules: click the column where you want to drop your ball and watch it fall.

Strategy Tips

Control the center. The middle three columns give your pieces far more potential connections than the edges, so early moves toward the center aren't just good — they're close to mandatory. When attacking, always ask whether your move creates a double threat: a position where you have two different ways to win on the next move. If it does, play it. If it doesn't, consider what defensive obligations your opponent now faces and whether you can build threats while they deal with them.

Don't underestimate diagonal threats. New players often spot horizontal and vertical dangers immediately but miss diagonal connections until it's too late. Train yourself to scan all four directions after every move.

A Reliable Timekiller

4 Balls delivers exactly what it promises: quick, satisfying rounds of connection strategy with zero friction. If you enjoy it, Tic Tac Toe and Tic Tac Toe Master offer similar stripped-down abstract strategy on the same lean design philosophy.
